Why Maldives?

Greetings. Prior to answering this question I desire to introduce myself as a specialist who has been working in Maldives for more than two years. I have made myriad observations in my time and have taken each experience, analyzed it with maturity, at times taken it for face value and finally compared it with similar (or near similar) experiences that I have had in many foreign counties and then passed a judgment on what I felt. Please bear in mind that everyone is different. Not all will react the same way to a given solution and most importantly as my wife once said (and I always remember and apply) - Your solution to the problem may not suit me!

That being said, let me apprise you of the simple fact. All of us have our priorities. My priority is that I have a blend of personality development, experience enhancement, knowledge up-gradation, hard work, deadlines, challenges, leisure time and good memories. To sum it all I wish to strike a work-life balance.

Every doctor comes to Maldives with an intention. Punishing oneself is part of the deal, because nothing comes for free, and if I dare quip - No pain, No gain. I came to Maldives to earn money. Didn't we all? But not all doctors will declare that. This is an issue that they rather not discuss. I wonder why people feel shy to reveal the truth! I have not come across a person who has come here to do service. The service oriented people are either in a charity organization or in a mission hospital. Yes, I am a professional and all working people earn money. Everyone feels that money is dear to them. But let me again reiterate that money should be the means and not the end.

Many people accuse doctors of being money minded. I have told these people to work honestly and deposit their salary in my account at the end of the month. Then there has been anger and arguments. I then snap back - Hypocrites! now money is so dear to you also, money minded chap!

Dear friends, please understand firstly that we are not heartless mercenaries who go crazy at the sight on money. We want to earn well so that it may compensate all the effort that we put in our work. We shoulder a lot of responsibility, take a lot of risks and run the gauntlet with all sorts of unscrupulous characters when we stand by our principles.

We all have come to Maldives for a reason. If you have a reason to relocate to Maldives, then please do. Do not let anything deter you from making the move. But once you are here, you will face some practical problems. My blog focuses on those problems and some solutions to those problems. It is easy for some persons to comment, saying that, the best solution to my problem is to leave Maldives OR why complaint? rather leave!

My attitude has always been to brave tumultuous journeys and take things up as a challenge as opposed to being worthless and running away in cowardice. At least I can look in the mirror and know that I can rely on someone.

If Maldives is your destination, come along and join the club. This blog is there to help you make the transition and educate you about the probable bottlenecks you will face.

Cheers,

Mosquito (small, alone, but very effective!)
